Lead Drilling Engineer

Dallas/Fort Worth Area, TX

Our client in the DFW area is looking for a Lead Drilling Engineer to join their team.

Job Summary

The Drilling Engineering Lead is part of company's Drilling and Workover Team The position reports to the Director of Drilling & Workover. This is a critical position functioning as the technical and operational leader for company's drilling activities. He/she is expected to demonstrate good technical judgment, professionalism, and leadership skills in promoting safe and efficient operations. The successful candidate will continue to elevate the company’s HSE culture, be a strong collaborator, showcase drilling engineering expertise, and provide comprehensive planning/operational oversight of the company’s exploration, production, and CCUS drilling programs. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that HSE and operational procedures are in place. Develop and support HSE training and implementation of new procedures and guidelines.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among the drilling team and the company’s different business units.
  • Manages relationships with the Business Unit Leads to ensure drilling issues are addressed and communicated effectively
  • Lead drilling team, and as workloads dictate, be project drilling engineer
  • Assist and supervise the drilling team in well designs and drilling in a safe & cost-effective way.
  • Competent use of techniques/procedures in designing and executing drilling programs including detailed well planning
  • Daily supervision of drilling operations including coordination of services and materials requirements for projects along with cost tracking
  • Preparation of detailed cost estimates for AFE’s with a capability to reconcile actual costs, control capital expenditures and be accountable for all costs on Drilling AFE’s
  • Assist and/or manage bidding and vendor selection along with approving invoices
  • Identify, recommend, and implement drilling optimization and cost reduction
  • Work well with multi-disciplinary teams
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills and Relevant Experience

  • Minimum of 10 to 15 years of diverse drilling engineering experience, ideally with some time in leadership/management roles
  • The candidate must have experience in designing wells, estimating cost, writing drilling procedures and in day-to-day drilling operations supervision.
  • Experience in multiple basins and well types is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a propensity towards collaborating in a team environment
  • Must demonstrate Health, Safety and Environmental compliance and awareness
  • Proven track record with a strong bias for being proactive and results oriented
  • Ability to prioritize work and focus efforts to deliver value
  • Maintain and evaluate data that lead to prudent technical and financial decisions
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with minimal supervision against assigned deadlines
  • Ability to cultivate relationships and work directly with all levels of personnel from field operations to top management
  • Ability to clearly convey practical concepts and relevant information in oral presentations or written reports
  • Willingness to travel as needed for job requirements
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering preferred
